The Andhra Pradesh Pet Practitioners Association (APPPA) is deeply committed to the continuous professional growth of veterinarians engaged in small animal practice. Recognizing the importance of accessible, updated, and system-based learning, APPPA launched a structured Webinar Series as part of its Continuing Veterinary Education (CVE) initiative.

These webinars aim to enhance the clinical expertise of pet practitioners through expert-led sessions that combine academic knowledge with real-world clinical experience.

Ophthalmology Webinar Series

As part of APPPA’s System-wise Continuing Veterinary Education (CVE) initiative, a specialized Ophthalmology Webinar Series was organized to strengthen the clinical expertise of veterinarians in companion animal eye care. All sessions were open to both APPPA members and non-members, promoting inclusive learning and collaboration.

🩺 Webinar 1: General Ophthalmic Examination in Canines


Speaker: Dr. R. Mahesh, Assistant Professor & Office Incharge, SVVU Super Speciality Veterinary Hospital, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh


Highlights:

    * Step-by-step approach to canine eye examination.

    * Demonstration of diagnostic procedures — Schirmer tear test, fluorescein staining, tonometry, and ophthalmoscopy.

    * Practical insights on patient handling and early recognition of ocular abnormalities.

Outcome:

Enhanced participants’ understanding of structured ophthalmic evaluation, improving confidence in diagnosing and managing common ocular conditions in small animals.

👁️🗨️ Webinar 2: Practical Approach to Corneal Ulcers in Dogs and Cats


Speaker: Dr. Yamini, M.V.Sc (Surgery)
Area of Research: Small Animal Ophthalmology, Eterna Vetcare, Ahmedabad


Highlights:

    * Classification and grading of corneal ulcers in dogs and cats.

    * Diagnostic differentiation between superficial, deep, and melting ulcers.

    * Stepwise medical and surgical management — debridement, grid keratotomy, and conjunctival grafting techniques.

    * Case discussions on ulcer complications and post-operative care.

👓 Webinar 3: Principles and Practice of Canine Ocular Ultrasonography


Speaker: Dr. Sindhu G. Nair, M.V.Sc, Ph.D (Surgery)
Area of Research: Small Animal Ophthalmology,
Consultant & Senior Surgeon, SKS Veterinary Hospitals, Chennai


Highlights:

    * Fundamentals of ocular ultrasonography and image acquisition.

    * Identification of intraocular and retrobulbar abnormalities.

    * Differentiating cataract, retinal detachment, and intraocular masses using sonographic patterns.

    * Real-time clinical applications and interpretation of findings.

Outcome:

Participants learned to effectively apply ultrasonography for ocular diagnosis, broadening their diagnostic capabilities in small animal ophthalmology.

📅 Future Plans


Building on the success of the Ophthalmology Series, APPPA plans to organize monthly webinars system-wise — including Cardiology, Dermatology, Neurology, Nephrology, and Endocrinology. Each session will feature experts and provide interactive learning with live case discussions to support continuous professional development.
